The QB3 Micro Home is a development from its predecessors the QB Move and QB2. Unlike the models before it, the QB3 is all on one level. It is even suitable for those with movement difficulties. With 36 cubic metres floor space, you’d expect it to be cramped. But it is incredibly spacious and energy efficient.
The Cube project is designed by Mark Page at the University of Hertfordshire. The licence to build them is help by Bolton Buildings. In March this year, the QB3 was showcased at the Edinburgh Science Festival.
The QB3 Micro Home has some exciting and innovative features, including the ability to move walls to create more space. The walls can be moved in the bedroom, to uncover a walkway to the full sized double bed and a bedside table. For asset finance options try here. On the other side of the Micro Home, another wall can be moved, with a mechanism similar to that used traditionally in library storage units. It unlocks a washing machine and entrance to the shower.
NorDan have supplied their triple glazed windows and doors to ensure the QB3 is as energy efficient as it can be. It even has two Airsource heat pumps, one with an integrated water pump to efficiently produce heat and hot water. This is benefitted from the heat recovery ventilation system that draws the escaping heat back into the Cube. Buyers of the Cube can even opt for additional roof solar panels to make the QB3 as environmentally clean as possible.
You can view the QB3 and QB2 on the Bolton Building’s website. It can be put up pretty much anywhere and even comes with a 50 year guarantee. The QB3 Micro Home will be airing on the Channel 4 ”˜Amazing Spaces’ on 20th October 2016. So don’t forget to check it out!
